
Dogs Win Third Straight

WINNIPEG, MB - The Hamilton Bulldogs won their third straight game defeating the Manitoba Moose 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the MTS Centre. The win gives Hamilton 87 points, a record of 37-28-7-6 and an eight point cushion over the Syracuse Crunch for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division. The Bulldogs now need one point in their last two games to eliminate the Crunch and clinch a playoff birth.
The Bulldogs went up 2-0 in the first period with two goals in a span of 1:33. Steve Begin opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season at the 13:49 mark. Begin let a hard shot go from the point that went off the post and in past goaltender Wade Flaherty. Then at 15:22, Marc-Andre Thinel scored a similar goal to give the Bulldogs a two-goal lead.
Trevor Daley extended Hamilton's lead to 3-0 at 8:41 of the second period on the power play. Daley beat Flaherty with a high shot for his seventh goal of the season.
The Moose got on the scoreboard with a power-play goal of their own when Lee Goren scored his 32nd goal of the season. The goal made the score 3-1 and came at 10:19 of the second period.
Mike Komisarek sealed the victory for the Bulldogs with his first goal of the season at 13:14 of the third period on the power-play. With an assist on the goal, Ron Hainsey tied Scott Ferguson for first in all-time Bulldogs scoring amongst defenceman. Hainsey now has 65 points (16g, 49a) in 153 games as a Bulldog while Ferguson notched 65 points (16, 49a) in 193 games with the Dogs.
Goaltender Yann Danis tallied his 27th win of the season while turning aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced and was named the game's first star. Moose netminder Wade Flaherty made 11 saves on 15 shots in a losing effort.
Defenceman Trevor Daley returned to the Bulldogs line-up after missing two contests due to injury and had a goal in the game.
