Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Battle Creek, MI-. John Kravetz threw seven strong innings while giving up just one run as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters downed the Battle Creek Bombers, 4-1. The start by Kravetz was the deepest a Rafters starter has gone this season and marked the first time that Rafters starting pitchers have thrown six innings or more on back-to-back days. The win improved the Rafters to 5-7 on the season and gave the Rafters a split of the two-game series with Battle Creek.

Both teams' starters were locked in as Kravetz worked his way through the first three innings while only facing 11 batters and Battle Creek's, David Stagg, allowed just two runs through four and two-thirds innings pitched while striking out seven.

The Rafters would scratch across the first of their four runs in the top of the fourth inning as the Rafters sent six men to the plate. Zack Belanger reached base on an infield hit and was moved to second when Erik Payne dropped a sacrifice bunt to the first basemen that moved Belanger to second. The Rafters would earn their first run on an RBI single by Marcus Wheeler up the middle. The RBI was the ninth of the year for the Kansas product and marked the 11th-straight game Wheeler has reached base.

The Rafters would tag Battle Creek starter, David Stagg, for another run in the fifth as Donnie Dewees reached on a bouncing ball through the right side of the diamond. With two outs in the inning, Dewees would take second on a balk by Stagg.

The Rafters added another run on a well-struck ball by designated hitter Jackson Slaid that went between the legs of the Bombers first basemen, Rouric Bridgewater. Dewees could come all the way around from second base to score, making the Rafters lead, 2-0.

The eighth inning would prove to be big for the Rafters as Slaid began the inning by reaching on a single through the right side. The base hit was Slaid's second of the day, giving him his fourth multi-hit ballgame of the season. Belanger and Payne would follow with back-to-back singles in the eighth as the Rafters loaded the bases for Cort Brinson. Brinson then roped a two-RBI single up the middle giving the Rafters their largest lead of the game, 4-1.

J.P. Feyereisen would come on in the ninth to record the Bombers in 1-2-3 fashions. The save was the second of the season for Feyereisen as the win was the second in three days for the Rafters and first of the season against the Bombers.

The Rafters will conclude their three-game road trip tomorrow when the visit the Madison Mallards at Warner Park for a 7:05 p.m. contest. Fans can listen to tomorrow's game by tuning into WFHR AM 1320.
