Border Cats drop second straight

After winning their first four home games, the Border Cats dropped their second straight at Subway Field Monday night, losing 5-2 to the Waterloo Bucks. Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) started for the Cats and took the loss to fall to 0-1. The lefthander pitched four innings and alllowed four hits and two runs. Atwood walked three and struck out two.

Trailing 3-0, the Cats scored their first run in the bottom of the 6th inning when Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) singled to score Cory Kay (Harper College). Jason Vosler (Northeastern University) plated the other Cats run with an RBI groundout in the last of the 8th inning, making the score 4-2 Bucks. Duplantis finished the night 2-2 with a double. Kay went 2-3 with a run scored and Vosler went 1-4 with a double, one run batted in, and scored once.

The Cats (6-7), continue their homestand tonight when they open a three game series against the St. Cloud Rox at 7:05pm. Caleb Smith (Rice University) will make his first home start of the season. The righthander has appeared in two games and is 0-0 with a 2.53 earned run average.
