
Komets take six points, pad Western Confernce lead

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets completed week 13 of the 2006-07 campaign taking 3 out of 4 games played to pad their Western Conference lead to 45 points with a 22-11-1 record. The Komets hold an 8-point margin over second-place Rockford with each team having played 34 games to date.
-UHL Standings-
The Komets posted 2 shutouts and a hat-trick in the week's play. Veteran netminder Kevin St. Pierre recorded his third shutout of the season for his 33rd career shutout with a 1-0 win at Elmira on 35 saves Wednesday night. St. Pierre extended his record of UHL career shutouts to 24 and pads his Fort Wayne franchise record at 21. Rookie goaltender Dan McWhinney posted his first pro shutout making 33 saves Saturday in a 3-0 win at Quad City. Daniel Goneau (LW) netted his first hat-trick of the season scoring all 3 Komet goals in the 3-0 win at Quad City.
This week the Komets will again skate 4 games in 5 nights starting with a trip to Rockford Wednesday for an 8:30pm faceoff. The Komets are 4-2-0 in 6 previous meetings with the IceHogs. It will be the fourth and final visit to Rockford MetroCentre. The IceHogs are coming off a 6-1 home loss to Kalamazoo Saturday night and are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games played.
Friday the Komets are home to entertain Muskegon at 8pm. The league-leading Fury have only lost 2 road games in regulation for a 18-2-1 road record going into this week's play. The Fury are 7-2-1 in their last 10. Muskegon will host Flint Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday.
Saturday the Komets skate at Kalamazoo at 7:30pm. It's the third of 5 meetings at Kalamazoo and fifth of 10 overall with the Komets looking for their second win of the season over the Wings (1-2-1). The Wings are riding a 5-game winning streak going into this week's action. Kalamazoo skates at Quad City Wednesday and hosts Chicago Friday before welcoming the Komets to Wings Stadium Saturday.
Sunday the Komets finish week 14 of the season at home against the Chicago Hounds at 5pm. It's the fifth of 11 meetings this season with each team winning at home twice in 4 previous meetings. The Hounds, coached by former Komet head coach Greg Puhalski, are coming off a 5-1 home win against Port Huron Sunday and are 3-7-0 in their last 10.

Fort Wayne will host the 2007 All-Star Gala Wednesday, Jan. 17 beginning with a player's skills competition at 7pm.

Komet streaks.....Jonathan Goodwin has a 3-game point streak and assist scoring streak (1g, 4a).....Daniel Goneau (LW) has a 3-game point scoring streak (3g, 2a).....the Komets won all three road games last week for a 4-game road winning streak, the longest thus far this season.
When they score.....the Komets are 5-2-1 in games when Daniel Goneau (LW) scores.....J.C. Ruid (C) leads the Komets with 21 goals and Fort Wayne is 12-3-1 when Ruid scores.
Dupuis hits 500.....Guy Dupuis (D) registered his 500th career point with an assist in the Komet's 1-0 win at Elmira Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Big plus.....rookie defenseman Arthur Kiyaga and winger David Hukalo each lead the Komets in plus/minus with +7. Kiyaga had a streak of 18 straight non-minus games, dating back to Nov. 24, before registering a -2 in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the visiting Flint Generals.
Komets re-sign Jorde.....defenseman Ryan Jorde has agreed to terms and been added to the Komet roster. Jorde, 24, started the season skating 23 games with Victoria in the ECHL. Jorde appeared in 30 games with the Komets last season posting 3 goals and 9 points while accumulating 107 penalty minutes. 2006-07 is Jorde's fifth pro season. The 6-foot, 3-inch blue liner may see his first action of the season with the Komets this Wednesday at Rockford.
