Komets Take Five Points for the Week

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets skated 3 games last week and took 5 points with a 2-0-1 record for the week. After 12 weeks and 35 games (21-11-3) the Komets continue to hold 2nd place in the UHL's Western Conference with 45 points, 7 points behind the leading Muskegon Fury.

Wednesday the Komets shut out the IceHogs in Rockford 4-0 behind a 31-save performance by goaltender Kevin St. Pierre. It was St. Pierre's 2nd shutout of the season and 14th of his career. David-Alexandere Beauregard notched a pair of goals for 5th time this season in a game. Adam Lewis and Kelly Perrault also added tallies while Kevin Kotyluk dished 2 assists.

Friday the Komets returned to Fort Wayne and upended the Quad City Mallards 4-3. Scoring for the Komets were Dan Price, Ryan Severson, Danny Stewart and Perrault. St. Pierre earned his 17th win of the season stopping 39 of 42 shots in his 7th straight start.

Saturday the Komets watched a 5-2 lead dissipate as the visiting Rockford IceHogs scored 3 unanswered 3rd-period goals to tie the game and send it to a shootout. The IceHogs outscored the Komets 2-0 in 4 shootout rounds to take the victory. It was the first Komet loss in 15 Rockford visits. Bobby Stewart, Dustin Virag, Danny Stewart, Beauregard and Perrault scored for the Komets in regulation while goaltender Kelly Shields suffered his first shootout loss of the season.

The Komets will skate 2 games against division leader Muskegon this weekend. Friday the Fury visit for an 8:05pm visit. Saturday both teams face each other at 7:40pm in Muskegon at the L.C. Walker Arena. Sunday Fort Wayne will host the Comcast UHL All-Star game at 7:35pm.

Due to Columbus suspending operations for the remainder of the season, the Komet game originally scheduled for this Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Columbus will not be played. The Komets will make up the game with another opponent at a later date. A revised schedule will be released by the UHL this week.

Komet streaks.....center Colin Chaulk has a 9-game point streak and league-high 9-game assist streak (2-18=20).....winge Dustin Virag is riding a 3-game point streak (1g, 3a).....defenseman Kelly Perrault has points in his last 5 games (3g, 4a) and a league-high 8-game home point streak (12pts).....goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has a 3-game win streak.....defenseman Kevin Schmidt has skated in 197 consecutive games and has not missed a regular season or playoff game since his first game with the Komets Oct. 12, 2001, at New Haven.

U-Toppers.....Kevin Kotyluk continues to lead with 37 minor penalties..... Kevin St. Pierre leads UHL goaltenders with a 2.22 goals-against average and .918 save percentage.....Kelly Perrault leads UHL defensemen with 13 goals, 6 power play goals, 20 power play points (T-Martin Woods, Flint) and 135 shots.....Komets have the best home power play in the league with a 27.0% rating (27/100).

St. Pierre, Perrault and Chaulk among the All-Stars here Sunday.....the Comcast UHL All-Star game gets underway this Sunday night, Jan. 18, at 7:35 at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre along with defenseman Kelly Perrault and center Colin Chaulk will represent Fort Wayne on the Western Conference team. The official rosters can be seen at the UHL's official website at www.theuhl.com and fans can vote for the All-Star starters at the UHL's website as well. There are still plenty of good seats available for the All-Star game at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Stanley Cup to make first appearance in Fort Wayne Sunday.....when the Comcast UHL All-Star Game takes place Sunday, Jan. 18, it will bring with it the first ever appearance of the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup in Fort Wayne. The Stanley Cup, hockey's most prized trophy since 1893, will be on hand for viewing by all fans in attendance after a pre-game ceremony and during the game. There will also be a special media photo opportunity prior to the game.

Marathon Night Friday.....this Friday night is Marathon Night again as the Komets host Muskegon. As part of Old Time Komet Hockey night, Friday night Komet games start at 8pm and Komet fans can get Fill Up cards at any participating Marathon location around the Fort Wayne area for "buy one, get one free" ticket offers.

PHP date remains open.....the Komets and Physicians Health Plan have teamed up again this year to present a special People Helping People program offering local schools a chance to receive 500 tickets to a Komet game during the season. One date remains open, Wednesday, April 7 vs the Adirondack IceHawks. Schools interested in signing up for the Komet's PHP program should call the Komet office at 483-0011 for more information.
