RiverDogs Finish 10-Game Homestand this Week

Richmond RiverDogs News Release


The Richmond RiverDogs are now 19-13-3, after going 2-0-2 last week. The ‘Dogs are in second place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Flint with a game in hand. Richmond drew the largest crowd for hockey to the Coliseum since March of 2000 when 10,163 were on hand for Saturday's game vs. Flint. Due to Columbus suspending operations the ‘Dogs will play two games this week. The ‘Dogs host Adirondack Tuesday. The Comcast UHL All Star Classic is Sunday in Ft. Wayne.

Tuesday, January 13 vs. Adirondack 7:05 PM GAME NOTES: The 10th of 19 meetings and the sixth of nine here. The ‘Dogs are 6-3 vs. the IceHawks, but Adirondack has won three of five in Richmond. J.J. Wrobel has 15 points vs. the IceHawks. Hugo Belanger has 15 vs. Richmond. The ‘Dogs are out-shooting the IceHawks by an average of five per game.

Saturday, January 17 @ Kalamazoo 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The third of five meetings and the first of two in Kalamazoo. The Wings are 2-0 vs. Richmond. Jeff Turner and Andrew Luciuk each have four points vs. Richmond. Dave Shields and Brian Goudie each have two points vs. the Wings. The clubs combined for 238 PIM in two games in Richmond.

Tuesday, January 6 vs. Elmira LOSS 5-4 (SO) GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs suffered an overtime shootout loss as Elmira rallied from a 4-2 third period deficit. Dave Shields and Jay Murphy each scored twice for Richmond. Nathan Gillies and J.F. Boutin scored twice for Elmira. The ‘Dogs out-shot the Jackals 32-23. The shootout lasted seven rounds.

Wednesday, January 7 vs. Elmira WIN 5-0 GAME NOTES: Maxime Gingras earned his second shutout of the season as the ‘Dogs snapped an eight game winless streak. Darren Wetherill and Jay Murphy each scored two goals. Olivier Filion had a goal and two assists. The ‘Dogs out-shot the Jackals 33-23. The clubs combined for 98 PIM.

Friday, January 9 vs. Flint WIN 3-2 GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs earned their 11th one goal win of the season. For the third straight game Jay Murphy scored two goals. Both Generals goals came shorthanded. The ‘Dogs out-shot Flint 35-21, holding the Generals to two first period shots on goal.

Saturday, January 10 vs. Flint LOSS 3-2 (SO) GAME NOTES: 10,163 fans saw Flint rally to force a shootout and win in overtime. The ‘Dogs fell behind 1-0 but scored twice in the second period. Eric Perricone scored his first as a ‘Dog and Dave Shields tallied to put Richmond in front. Pascal Morency's late third period goal forced the shootout. The ‘Dogs out-shot Flint 43-19, the largest difference of the season.

DOG BITES: The RiverDogs are unbeaten in regulation in four straight games. They have out-shot the opposition by 57 over those four games (an average of 36.5 to 21.5). The ‘Dogs out-shot Flint by a season high 24 shots Saturday. The 19 shots allowed Saturday is a season low. The crowd of 10,163 Saturday was the largest for a hockey game in Richmond since March 18, 2000 when 10,168 were on hand for a Richmond-Hampton Roads contest. Richmond has lost three straight shootouts after winning their first five. The ‘Dogs finish a 10 game homestand (2-4-3 thus far) Tuesday. That will be the ‘Dogs fifth game in eight days. Jay Murphy's three game goal scoring streak ended Saturday. Kevin St. Jacques has points in three straight games. The ‘Dogs have gone three straight games without allowing a power play goal, the longest such streak of the season. Richmond snapped an eight game winless streak with a shutout of Elmira Wednesday. It was Maxime Gingras second shutout of the season. Richmond is 14-1-1 when scoring first. Richmond went over 142 minutes from late in the third period of Tuesday's game vs. Elmira to late in the first period of Saturday's game vs. Flint without allowing an even strength or power play goal. Tyler Lawson was placed on the 21 Day IR Monday. J.J. Wrobel remains on the 7 Day IR. J.F. Picard is on team suspension. Eric Perricone joined the ‘Dogs Friday and picked up his first goal Saturday. The ‘Dogs have now used 32 players this season. Three ‘Dogs (Jay Murphy, Kevin St. Jacques, and J.J. Wrobel) will play in the UHL All Star Game Sunday.
