Komets rally for three-point weekend

Fort Wayne, IN — The Komets took a split of a 3-game weekend earning 3 points to improve to 26-13-4 after 43 games of the 2004-05 campaign. Week 15 is the last week before the UHL breaks for the All-Star Game in Adirondack Monday, Jan. 14.

Friday night the Komets were doubled-up by the visiting Motor City Mechanics 4-2. Wingers Sean Venedam and Chris Grenville scored Komet goals as goaltender Kevin St. Pierre stopped 20 of 23 shots in the game. It was Motor City's last of 3 visits to Fort Wayne this season with the Komets taking the home series 2-1-0. The Komets will face the Mechanics in Detroit Jan. 28 and Apr. 2 to complete the 6-game series.

Saturday the Komets upset the Beacons at Port Huron 4-1 for their 12th road win of the season. Venedam and winger P.C. Drouin each notched a pair in the match at McMorran while St. Pierre turned back 33 shots for his 13th win of the season. It was only the 2nd of 6 meetings this season between the 2 teams with the Komets taking a 2-0-0 series lead.

Sunday the Komets battled the visiting Elmira Jackals and earned a point dropping a 4-3 shootout. The Jackals survived 9 rounds in the extra frame for the win. Scoring for the Komets in regulation were Venedam, center Colin Chaulk and defenseman Steve Rodberg. Chaulk added 2 assists for his 9th 3-point game of the season. St. Pierre made 25 saves in his 4th straight start.

The Komets will skate 2 back-to-back home games this weekend. Former Komet Kevin Kaminski brings his Missouri River Otters to town Friday for an 8pm faceoff on coliseum ice. Saturday the Komets will host the Western Conference rival Rockford IceHogs at 7:30pm.

Player Card Strips and Sticks this weekend.....the first 2,500 fans entering the Komet game this Friday night will get free Komet Player Card Strips courtesy of Shoe Carnival featuring players Colin Chaulk, Jonathan Goodwin, Jeff Worlton and Troy Neumeier. Saturday 1,000 Sher-Wood hockey sticks will be given out to children 12 and under prior to the Komet home game against Rockford compliments of Encore Health Network.

Puhalski, Chaulk, Venedam and Goodwin join Stars in Adirondack Monday.....All Stars Colin Chaulk, Sean Venedam and Jonathan Goodwin will join Komet head coach Greg Puhalski on Team Mountain Dew when the game is held Monday, January 24, 2005, in Glens Falls, New York. The Adirondack Frostbite will be hosting the festivities this year at the Glen Falls Civic Center. It will be Chaulk's 2nd consecutive trip to the league's classic affair after appearing with the UHL Western Conference All Stars last season. Puhalski was selected All Star head coach for owning the best point percentage of all teams represented on Team Mountain Dew after games played Jan. 2. Komet defenseman Jason Kean was also named a UHL All Star, but due to injury will be replaced by Rockford's Steve Pelletier. The UHL is celebrating its 14th consecutive season with 14 member clubs, aligned in three divisions and competing in seven states, including the expansion Danbury Trashers (Connecticut), Motor City Mechanics (Michigan) and Kansas City Outlaws (Missouri).
