Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The K-Wings started the week on Wednesday (1/12) with a road contest against the Quad City Mallards. In a game marred with penalties, the K-Wings were able to outlast the Mallards 2-1 in a shootout. The K-Wings gave up a season high 10 power-play chances to the Mallards. Quad City was able to connect on just one of the 10 chances. Kalamazoo's lone goal in regulation was a shorthanded goal from Tim Turner (10). Joel Martin was solid between the pipes for the K-Wings stopping 34 shots to earn his fifth victory of the season.

For the first time in 2005, the K-Wings returned home on Friday (1/14) to Wings Stadium to host the Elmira Jackals. After giving up a first period goal to Jackals, Kalamazoo dominated the remainder of the contest and defeated Elmira by the final of 4-1. Kalamazoo's Tim Krueckl lead the K-Wings by registering three points, including two goals (6,7) in the victory.

Kalamazoo concluded the week on Saturday (1/15) with a home game against the Motor City Mechanics. The K-Wings jumped out to an early two nothing lead in the opening period. First, it was Tim Turner connecting on his 11th of the season to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead. Just 56 seconds after Turner scored the game's first goal; Gray Shaneberger lit the lamp for the ninth time of the year. Motor City cut the Kalamazoo lead to a single goal, when Joe Burton (15) scored a shorthanded goal in the final minute of the first period. The K-Wings regained their two goal lead in the second period, when Shaun Fisher (4) scored from between the circles 2:48 into the period to give the K-Wings a 3-1 lead. The two goal lead would hold until the third period, that's when the Mechanics stormed back with two unanswered goals to force the game into a shootout. In the extra session, the K-Wings scored on all three of their shooters, while Motor City could only muster one goal past Chad Alban, as the K-Wings defeated the Mechanics 4-3 in front of 3,691 fans at Wings Stadium. The victory raised the K-Wings winning streak to season high nine games.
