
Komets Open 59th Training Camp at Memorial Coliseum

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 ---The Komets opened training camp on the 59th season of hockey in Fort Wayne Monday, Oct. 4 at noon with the annual preseason press luncheon at the Memorial Coliseum.
25 players make up the Komets' preseason roster. Besides head coach Al Sims and assistant coach Gary Graham, returning from last year are forwards Sean O'Connor, Leo Thomas, P.C. Drouin and Kaleigh Schrock. Defensemen returning are Guy Dupuis, Danko Mironovic, Keith Rodger, Brandon Warner, Frankie DeAngelis and Bobby Phillips. Nick Boucher will be returning in the Fort Wayne nets. Also returning to the Fort Wayne fold after brief stints away are forwards Olivier Legault and Mathieu Curadeau and goaltender Kevin Reiter.
Sims, Drouin, Dupuis, Warner and Boucher will be looking for their fourth straight Fort Wayne Championship. Thomas, O'Connor, Mironovic and Rodger are gunning for their third straight Komet title.
The Komets embark on their first season in the Central Hockey League after collecting three straight IHL Turner Cup Championships. In addition to the Komets, Bloomington, Dayton, Evansville and Quad City will continue to be members of the IHL participating in the Central Hockey League under the CHL moniker.
The CHL, comprised of 13 teams, becomes an 18-team circuit with the coalition of the IHL's five teams. Each team will play 66 games during 2010-11.
The Komets will open the 2010-11 campaign with their 59th home opener Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7:30pm against last year's CHL champion Rapid City Rush. The Komets have won four straight season openers and while riding a six-game home opener winning streak, the Komets are unbeaten in regulation in 15 consecutive home opening games (13-0-2).
The Komets have single practices slated for each day of camp and will feature two scrimmages. Scrimmages will be held Tuesday, Oct. 5 and Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 3pm each day.
Komets to skate two exhibition games.....prior to the season and home opener Oct. 16 at the Coliseum, the Komets have two preseason tuneups on tap, one at home and one on the road. The Komets will host the Dayton Gems Thursday, Oct. 7, at 7:30pm at the Coliseum. Dayton will then host the Komets in exhibition play at Hara Arena Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7:30pm.

Komets, WOWO....Two Number Ones Join Forces
.....The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM, Fort Wayne's radio leader, have agreed to terms for 2010-11 with hockey's legendary broadcaster Bob Chase leading the way. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, will be heard on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with Chase broadcasting at radio-rinkside in his 58th consecutive season behind the Komet microphone.
The Komets and WOWO have been together in all but one of the 59 years of the Fort Wayne hockey franchise. "It's great to have all games broadcast on the flagship station of Komet hockey, WOWO 1190 this season," said Komet President Michael Franke. "The Komets and WOWO are synonymous with Fort Wayne as two of the area's most prized treasures."
All games on radio will also be webcast at the Komets' website on the Xfinity KometCast at www.komets.com.
