CHL Announces Results from Fall Governors' Meeting

Published on October 4, 2010 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

TEMPE, AZ (October 4, 2010) - Following up from the Central Hockey League's (CHL) annual Fall Governors' Meeting on Monday September 27 in Dallas, Texas, the CHL announced several determinations made from that gathering.

In addition to discussing key operational issues for the upcoming season, the league discussed and subsequently voted on a new tiebreaking procedure for the upcoming season's standings. In accordance with previous tiebreaker policy, the first tiebreaker will be wins but the adjustment will be the exclusion of wins via shootout. As in years past, the second tiebreaker would remain head-to-head record.

In addition to the above, modifications to the CHL rule book were made earlier this summer, which included changes made by the National Hockey League focusing on Illegal Checks to the head. The rule change provides for a major penalty and a game misconduct for a "lateral or blindside hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact". The entire CHL rulebook is available as a PDF at www.centralhockeyleague.com.

Additionally, the CHL will allow for an ice scrape prior to shootouts and implement an even more comprehensive concussion management program.
