Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- As the Mississippi RiverKings are about to embark on its 19th season of hometown professional hockey in the Mid-South on the ice, the RiverKings have also been busy off the ice promoting area events and activities.
A "Big Scoop" of food and fun was going on at AutoZone Park in Memphis on Saturday, September 25th, when the annual "Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival " for the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis was held. RiverKings mascot Sheldon the Turtle was again on hand to lend support, as attendees paid admission to taste samples provided by area vendors and take part in the fun activity. Proceeds went to the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.
Sheldon the Turtle and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski took part in the "Bet Against Breast Cancer " event on Saturday, September 25th, at the Memphis Zoo. The sold-out event was presented by Panera Bread and the Wings Cancer Foundation. It featured celebrity dealers, such as Kaminski, helping to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer.
Fighting breast cancer was also on the minds of Mid-Southerners last weekend during the visit of the Pink Heals Tour to Dobbs Ford Wolfchase in Memphis on Sunday. Shelby County and Memphis firefighters spent the weekend wearing pink tee-shirts in place of their normal uniform to raise awareness, as the national Pink Heals Tour came through the Mid-South. The pink fire truck is part of a national effort to raise funds and awareness to the fight against breast cancer. Sheldon the Turtle was also on hand to lend RiverKings support to the cause.
These are just a few of the activities the RiverKings have been involved with in the Mid-South. Check back to the RiverKings web site for more information.
The 19th season of RiverKings hockey is about to start, with pre-season action this weekend against Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday, October 9th at 6:05 PM and Sunday, October 10th at 3:05 PM. For more information, contact the RiverKings at 662-342-1755 today!
