
Gems Release Training Camp Roster

Dayton, OH- Dayton Gems Head Coach and General Manager Brian Gratz announced today that the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL) have assigned defensemen Tysen Dowzak, and Matt McCue to the Gems for the start of training camp. Coach Gratz also announced the complete roster for training camp which begins today.
Dowzak, 22, was signed by the New York Rangers as a free agent on October 9, 2008. He spent the 2009-10 season splitting time between the Rangers affiliated teams of the Charlotte Checkers (ECHL) and Harford Wolfpack (AHL) as well as some time with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League (CHL). Prior to signing with the Rangers in 2008, the 6-5, 212-pounder played his Major Junior hockey with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in Canada. While in Kelowna, Dowzak appeared in 220 regular season games and registered 38 points on four goals and 34 assists while also accumulating 304 penalty minutes. During the 2007-08 season in Kelowna, Dowzak was second on the club overall with a +29 rating.
McCue, 22, was acquired by the Rangers in a trade earlier this summer with the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Tomas Zaborsky. He spent the 2009-10 splitting time between the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. Prior to turning professional, McCue spent his entire Major Junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) playing for the Spokane Chiefs, Chilliwack Bruins, Brandon Wheat Kings and the Medicine Hat Tigers. The 6-5, 218-pounder appeared in 247 games during his time in the WHL and registered 63 points on 15 goals and 48 assists, as well as accumulating 625 penalty minutes. He signed with the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent on December 30, 2008.
Former Dayton Bombers Goaltender Terry Denike has been brought in to assist in coaching for training camp with the three goaltenders listed on the training camp roster below. During his two years with the Bombers in the ECHL, Denike appeared in 21 games and held a record of 11-5-5, recording one shutout, a goals against average of 3.62 and a save percentage of .883.
