Komets Net Four Points for Week 19

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets gained four points in three games played for week 19 of 2011-12 to improve to 33-17-3 and 69 points after 53 games. Fort Wayne trails first-place Evansville in the Turner Conference by seven points with four weeks and 13 games remaining.

The Komets started the week with their only visit of the season to Tulsa Tuesday. The K's clipped the Oilers 2-1 in overtime to claim the season series 2-1-0 and push their road win streak to three games.

Friday the Komets shaded the visiting Arizona Sundogs 5-4 in a shootout as defenseman Frankie DeAngelis netted his first pro hat trick including the game winning goal in the shootout. It was the last meeting of the season with the Komets winning the series against Arizona 2-1-0. Goaltender Gerry Festa earned his third straight win in his fifth straight appearance stopping 31 of 35 shots through overtime before stopping all five Arizona attempts in the shootout.

Saturday the hot IceMen shut out the Komets in Evansville 3-0. It was Evansville's ninth straight win and snapped Fort Wayne's three-game win string. It was the last visit of the season to Evansville where the Komets posted a 7-4-0 record for the season. The IceMen have two games remaining in Fort Wayne when they visit for a Komet home double-header Friday, March 9 and Saturday March 10.

Komets of the week -Frankie DeAngelis posted three goals, including his first pro hat trick in Friday's 5-4 win over Arizona and added an assist for a four-point week. Goaltender Gerry Festa put in extra time in each of the two games he appeared, earning an overtime win Tuesday against Tulsa and a 5-4 shootout victory Friday against Arizona to improve to 4-3-2 after 10 appearances with Fort Wayne.

When scoring first -the Komets scored the first goal of the game in each of their wins of the week and are 25-2-1 when scoring first. The Komets also capitalized on having the lead after the second period Friday against Arizona and improved to 28-0-1 when taking the lead into the third period.

Marching into the final month -The Komets enter the last four weeks of the season this week. The Komets will skate 13 games, nine at home and four on the road over a 27-day period. Six teams have visits to Fort Wayne remaining including Quad City (1), Bloomington (1), Wichita (1), Dayton (2), Evansville (2) and Laredo (2). The Komets will be on the road for four more games, two at Quad City and two at Dayton. The regular season slate will conclude on Sunday, March 25 when the Komets hosts Dayton.

The week ahead -The Komets begin a week of four games in six nights with a trip to Quad City Tuesday. Bloomington visits Wednesday before the Komets head back to Quad City Friday. The Komets finish the week welcoming Wichita to Fort Wayne Sunday.

GAMES THIS WEEK

- Tuesday at Quad City-- Tuesday the Komets will faceoff at 8:05pm ET at the i wireless Center (9,000) in Moline, Illinois. It's the fourth of five visits to Quad City (29-22-1, 59 points) this season where the Komets are unbeaten in the previous three. The Komets lead the season series 5-1-0 after earning a 4-1 home win against the Mallards in the last meeting Feb. 10. Quad City is fighting for playoff position as they trail fourth-place Rapid city by three points in the Turner Conference. The Mallards have alternated wins and losses since their loss to Fort Wayne Feb. 10 and are 4-4-0 in their last eight games.

- Bloomington blazes trail to Fort Wayne Wednesday -- The Komets will skate their final game of the season against the Blaze when they welcome Bloomington (19-28-6, 44 points) Wednesday for a 7:30pm faceoff. The Komets and Bloomington are knotted at 5-5-0 after 10 meetings this season, setting up a rubber match for Wednesday at the Memorial Coliseum where the Komets are 3-2-0 against the Blaze this year. Bloomington rests in last place in the Turner Conference, 18 points behind fourth-place Rapid City in the race for playoff contention with 13 games remaining. The Blaze are idle until their trip to Fort Wayne Wednesday.

Season Ticket Exchange Night -- Wednesday is also a Season Ticket Exchange Night when the Komets host Bloomington at 7:30pm. Komet season ticket holders can exchange any unused ticket from a previously scheduled Komet home game this season for a free ticket to Wednesday's game at the Coliseum Ticket Office. There are several Season Ticket Exchange Nights during the Komet hockey season. The next Season Ticket Exchange Night is Wednesday, March 21 when the Komets host the Quad City Mallards.

- Komets back on road to Quad City Friday -- Friday the Komets return to Quad City for an 8:05pm ET faceoff and their final visit of the season to the i wireless Center. The Komets have won seven of nine Friday road games this year including the two previous Friday matches at Quad City. The season series will conclude when the Mallards visit Fort Wayne March 21. In addition to hosting the Komets Tuesday, the Mallards skate at Bloomington Thursday before welcoming back the Komets Friday.

- Wichita visits Sunday -- The Thunder make their only appearance of the season in Fort Wayne Sunday when they visit for a 5pm faceoff. It's the second and final pairing of the season. The Komets dropped a 5-3 decision to the Thunder in their only visit of the season to Wichita Dec. 13. Wichita (36-15-2, 74 points) continues to lead the CHL with 74 points for a pad of seven points over second-place Allen in the Berry Conference. The Thunder travel to Evansville for games Wednesday and Friday before arriving in Fort Wayne Sunday.

Bring your skates for Family Skate Sunday -- The Komets present another free Wendy's Family Skate immediately following Sunday's Komet home game against Wichita.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, I ndiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The half-hour show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts.

TONIGHT, Feb. 27, Komet goaltenders Nick Boucher and Gerry Festa will be the featured guests.

60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
