Notes
Lord Stanley visits Independence - The Missouri Mavericks host the Rapid City Rush this Friday, March 2nd, but the most important guest of the evening will be on display on the concourse during the game. The most famous trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup, will be at Independence Events Center throughout the duration of Friday's game..
Short week - After two consecutive weekends of three-games-in-three-nights, the Mavs have a light week with just two games against the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday in Oklahoma and Friday at home against the Rapid City Rush. The magnitude of Friday's matchup with the Rapid City Rush outweighs the lack of games this week. With just a one-point lead over the Rush in the standings and 11 games left in the regular season after Friday's game, the Mavs will look to solidify themselves in the playoff race with a win over Rapid City this week.
Thunder rolled - The Mavericks struggled against the rival Wichita Thunder this season, going 2-6-1 against the Thunder. The Mavs still lead the all-time series against Wichita by a count of 16-11-3, but are just 6-11-3 against their rival since going 10-0-0 against the Thunder in the Mavs 2009-10 inaugural season.
Record for Courtney - Missouri rookie and all-star forward Andrew Courtney broke the Mavs single season record for goals scored by a rookie with his 20th goal of the season Saturday night against the Wichita Thunder. Courtney surpassed Nick Sirota's 2009-10 campaign, in which Sirota set the record with 19 goals in his first professional season. Overall, Courtney has 20 goals and 20 assists on the season for 40 points.
Conference race - The Mavericks' lead for third place in the Turner Conference has shortened significantly in the past two weeks, with the Mavs going 2-4-1 in their last seven games. Missouri leads Rapid City by just one point in the standings with a critical matchup against the Rush this Friday night at Independence Events Center. The Mavs also hold a four-point advantage over the Quad City Mallards for the fourth and final playoff spot in the conference.
100 home games - Including regular season and playoffs, the Mavericks played their 100th home game in franchise history last Saturday night against the Wichita Thunder.
Hogg wild - Mavericks' rookie forward Kris Hogg has turned into an offensive asset as of late, scoring four points in four consecutive games on three goals and an assist. Since being named the CHL's Rookie of the Month in October, Hogg struggled through the middle of the season, scoring just one point in 25 games leading up to his current streak. The Sicamous, British Columbia native leads Mavs forwards in plus/minus rating this season at +12. Hogg was the fourth round pick (121st overall) of the Calgary Flames in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Mac Appearances - Mac, the mascot of the Missouri Mavericks, will be making two appearances this week at local Price Choppers. On Sunday, March 4, Mac will be at the Parkville Price Chopper from 10am-Noon at 9107 NW 45 Highway. Then from 2pm-4pm, Mac will be at the Price Chopper located at 4820 North Oak Trafficway in Kansas City.
