
Komets Kick off 60th Anniversary Season

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets opened their 60th anniversary season Saturday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Over 10,000 Komet fans witnessed the Fort Wayne home opener for the 10th consecutive year.
The visiting Evansville IceMen spoiled the festive opener by handing the Komets a 5-0 setback as Fort Wayne falls to 38-17-1-4 after 60 home openers. It was the second straight home opener the Komets were held scoreless and only the fourth time in their 60-year history. Komet goaltender Nick Boucher, appearing in his fourth straight Fort Wayne home opener, suffered the loss stopping 33 of 38 shots. Evansville's Pier-Olivier Pelletier earned the shutout making 29 saves.
GAMES THIS WEEK
Evansville returns Saturday -- The IceMen return to Coliseum ice Saturday at 7:30pm. The Komets will faceoff against Evansville for the second of six visits by the IceMen and the second of 13 total meetings this season. Once again, and for the final time this season, it will be the only game of the week for the Komets.
The Komets follow this week with their first of 11 stretches of three games in three nights when Rapid City visits Friday, Nov. 4 at 8pm. The Komets will visit Evansville for the IceMen's home opener Saturday, Nov. 5 at the new Ford Center and return home to host Quad City Sunday, Nov. 6 at 5pm.
GUY DUPUIS NIGHT SATURDAY
-- The Komets will honor four-time champion defenseman Guy Dupuis this Saturday night by retiring his number 2 to the rafters of the Coliseum. Dupuis retired after his 14th season with the Komets last year. It was his 21st year as a pro. Dupuis first wore the number 2 appearing in 10 games with the Komets during 1991-92. In addition to collecting four league championships with the Komets, Dupuis has the distinction of owning several Fort Wayne player records. The defenseman completed 2010-11 with a Fort Wayne career record 945 regular season games played and 95 playoff games for a record total 1,040 Komet games. Dupuis also owns Fort Wayne defenseman records of 126 goals, 417 assists and 543 points in regular season games. Counting playoff appearances, Dupuis has scored the most overall points by a Fort Wayne defenseman of 594 points. He is an eight-time recipient of the Komets' Defenseman of the Year Award and a three-time league Defenseman of Year. Dupuis also earned the Komets' plus/minus award on seven occasions. Dupuis hails from Moncton, New Brunswick and resides in Fort Wayne with his family.
INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, along with Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP, present a new weekly televised sports program airing on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week throughout the 2011-12 season with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts during the half-hour program. The show will also feature highlights, interviews, call-ins and special segments. Tonight, Oct. 24, Komet center Brett Smith and defenseman Jamie Milam will be special guests.
60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO
-- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
