The Mavericks travel to Arizona for a three-game stint against the Arizona Sundogs starting on Wednesday night. The Mavericks and Sundogs have only met twice in the two-year existence of the Mavericks during the 2009-10 season and Arizona won both games at Independence Events Center. These will be the only three meetings of the season between the teams in Arizona, and the Sundogs will travel to Missouri for three games in February. Arizona is 1-1-0 after a split with the Laredo Bucks on opening weekend. The Mavericks are 2-0-0 and continue their season-long six-game road trip with the three games in Arizona.

Notes

Early leaders - The Mavericks off-season acquisitions of Sebastien Thinel and Ed McGrane have already paid dividends as the two veterans lead the Mavericks in scoring. Thinel earned an assist in Friday night's win over Rio Grande Valley and followed that up with a three-point game on Saturday on a goal and two assists. McGrane was held scoreless on Friday night, but led the Mavericks with two goals on Saturday night. Rookie forwards Dale Mahovsky (two goals) and Kris Hogg (1-12) each have two points through two games as well.

Between the pipes - Mavericks' goaltender Charlie Effinger was solid between the pipes over the weekend. Effinger gave up just one goal in each of the first two games respectively. His goals-against average of 1.00 and his save percentage of .966 each rank third in the CHL. Effinger has stopped 57 of the first 59 shots against him this season including all 36 shots he has faced in the second and third periods combined.

Special teams - The Mavericks special teams have started well. Missouri has one power play goal in seven chances for a 14.3% conversion rate, and the penalty kill unit has not allowed a goal through the first two games going 7-for-7.

Season-long road trip - The Mavericks are two games into their season-long six-game road trip. Missouri will play the three games in Arizona this week and one game in Wichita on November 4 before their first home game on November 5 at Independence Events Center.

Quick start - The Mavericks are 2-0-0 for the first time in team history. The team has normally had slow starts in the month of October and has never had more than two wins in the month during their first two seasons.

Toughness factor - After a fairly calm opening night game, the Mavericks and Killer Bees embarked in three fights in the second game. Carlyle Lewis, Mike Wakita and Ryan Jardine all earned five minutes for fighting in the Mavericks' second game. All three players are returning players to the Mavericks lineup, and newcomer Dave Pszenyczny leads the team with eight penalty minutes.

Wolves News - The Mavericks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Chicago Wolves are 2-3-0-2 after seven games. Over the weekend, Chicago beat the Rockford IceHogs twice in a home-and-home series before losing to the Peoria Rivermen on Sunday. Forward Darren Haydar leads the Wolves in scoring with five points (2-35) throught seven games.
