QUACK TRACKS

For Openers...

Last Saturday's loss to Rapid City was the Mallards' third straight home-opening defeat. The Flock fell to Odessa in Quad City's home ice curtain-raiser last year and was beaten by Fort Wayne in its first home game of the 2009-10 campaign.

Brown-Out

The Mallards were two minutes and 39 seconds away from being shut out by Danny Bottachio and Rapid City last Saturday night when Jared Brown scored the only Quad City goal of the evening late in the third period. Brown has now scored three times in six career games. He produced two goals in five regular season games after joining the Mallards following the conclusion of his college career at Northern Michigan last spring. Last Saturday's goal was originally credited to Shane Lovdahl but a scoring change has now seen the goal go to Brown, who tipped home Lovdahl's shot.

Closing In

Veteran John Snowden has scored 198 career goals. Snowden last Saturday came within inches of pulling within a single goal of the 200 mark when rifled a shot off the underside of the cross bar early in the first period that ricocheted back into play without crossing the goal line.

Firsts

Jared Lavender, mere days after being acquired by the Mallards in a trade with Missouri Mavericks, recorded his first point for Quad City when he picked up an assist on Brown's goal last Saturday. Rookies Sean Flanagan, Tyler Gilmore and Mickey Lang made their regular season professional debuts in the opener. Last Saturday's game was Mallards coach and general manager David Bell's first as a head coach. Bell spent the prior seven seasons as an assistant.

Between the Pipes David McKee made 22 saves while taking the loss in his Mallard debut in goal last Saturday.

Power Outage

The Mallards went 0-for-5 on the power play last Saturday night. Preseason and regular season combined, the Flock has gone 0-for-11 on the man advantage.

Totally Turner Time The Mallards take on foes from within the Turner Conference in each of their first six games and 12 of their first 14.

On the Road Again

The Mallards will play six of their next seven games on the road.

Ins and Outs

Swedish defenseman Karl Linden did not play for the Mallards last Saturday while working through the immigration process.

Restart the Fire

The Mallards and the Bloomington Blaze renew acquaintances this weekend after the Mallards went 8-3-0 against the then-Bloomington PrairieThunder last season. The Flock posted a 3-2-0 record over five games in Bloomington last year.

NEXT HOME GAME

Friday, November 4, 7:05 p.m.- Mallards vs. Dayton Gems Veterans Appreciation Night and Teddy Bear Toss

Presented by CBS 4, The Quad-City Times and B100

November 4 will be Vetarans Appreciation Night as the Mallards honor those who have served in the armed forces in what will be the Flock's final home game before Vetarans' Day. The same evening will also see the Mallards hold their annual teddy bear toss. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal to the November 4 game can toss it onto the ice after the Mallards' first goal in that tilt. Those teddy bears will then be donated to Quad City Festival of Trees.
