Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, Ohio -The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the Central Hockey League, opened up their second CHL season on the road against the expansion Bloomington Blaze Saturday night, falling in overtime 5-4. The Gems now prepare for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday in Rapid City, South Dakota against the Rush.

Despite an early lead and a two goal comeback in the third, the Gems would be unable to capitalize on several quality chances in overtime, falling to the Blaze 5-4 and taking their first point of the young season in front of the Bloomington opening night crowd of 3,375 at the US Cellular Coliseum Saturday. Scoring for the Gems were #15 Damian Surma, #24 Brandon Naurato, #9 Jon Ornelas & #18 Nick Fanto, while goaltender Kristofer Westblom netted the overtime loss in his first start of the season.

The Gems make the twenty hour trip to Rapid City, SD for the first time since last season's playoffs. Fresh from a 5-1 win on the road against Quad City, the Rush return home in time to host the Gems for Rapid City's home opener, the second straight home opener the Gems have participated in.
Friday night's game against the Rush is also a Gems road game watch party at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Englewood, who will feature the Gems telecast on the big screens, complete with live game audio over the restaurants PA system, with Gems staff on hand conducting giveaways all night long.
Upcoming Community Appearances
Tuesday, October 25 from 1pm to 4pm - Gems players will trade their sticks for hammers and their helmets for hard hats when they help a local family by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in nearby Trotwood, Ohio.
Tuesday, October 25 at 4:40pm - Coach Gratz joins Clint and Smitty in studio for Gems talk on Dayton's sports station, 980-AM WONE.
Friday, October 28 from 6pm to 7pm - Blade, the Gems beloved mascot, will join the sports anchor from ABC22 & FOX 45 for the Dayton Gems Tailgate live broadcast before week ten of local high school football kicks off!
Saturday, October 29 from 4pm to 8pm - Blade will be participating in this year's Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Trick of Treat event, passing out Gems tickets and information to kids and parents all night long!
Upcoming Gems Home Opener
The Dayton Gems opening night is set for Saturday, November 5 at 7pm. Single Game Tickets are on sale now at the Hara Arena box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
