Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets are home for a weekend double-header this weekend. Friday the Komets face division rival Toledo at 8pm. It's the second of six visits by the Walleye this season. The Walleye are coming off a 4-2 loss at Orlando Monday night and are winless in their last two outings, 2-3-0 in their last five.
The Komets will get their first of two looks this season at the Road Warriors when Greenville visits for a 7:30pm faceoff Saturday. Greenville also visits Feb. 28. The Warriors dropped a 3-1 home decision to Gwinnett Monday night and are 1-5-0 in their last six games. Greenville skates at Cincinnati Friday before visiting Fort Wayne Saturday.
Komet home games this weekend kick off a stretch of six out the next eight games on Coliseum ice. The Komets will also skate a double-header weekend next week when they host Reading Friday, Nov. 22 at 8pm and Wheeling Saturday night, Nov. 23 at 7:30. The following week the Komets complete the slate of November home dates with the traditional Thanksgiving game Nov. 28 against Florida followed by a rematch against the Everblades Saturday, Nov 30.
Military Appreciation Weekend-- This Friday and Saturday the Komets and Window World present Military Appreciation Weekend. Window World spokesman and Indy Car driver John Andretti will be on hand each night to meet and greet Komet fans and sign autographs. The Komets will wear special stars and stripes jerseys each game. The jerseys will be auctioned off to the highest bidders during a silent auction held during the games and will benefit the Veterans Airlift Command.
New faces-- The Komets announced Wednesday that defenseman William Lacasse has been called up from the Bloomington Thunder of the SPHL. Lacasse participated in the Fort Wayne training camp before joining the Thunder prior to the start of the season. Lacasse, 26, has appeared in all six Bloomington games to date scoring a goal and two points while accumulating 16 penalty minutes. Lacasse made his pro debut last season appearing in 26 ECHL games among Greenville, Idaho and San Francisco amassing totals of two goals, five points and 22 penalty minutes.
The Komets announced Monday that center Kenton Miller has been activated and added to the roster. Miller, 22, was acquired from Utah in a trade for cash. The skater appeared in six ECHL games with the Grizzlies this season (0 points, 2 penalty minutes). Miller made his pro debut last season sharing time with Missouri (CHL) and Chicago (AHL). Miller reached 30 goals and added 21 assists for 51 points in 53 games with Missouri while skating six AHL games with Chicago accumulating two penalty minutes.
Another new face to Komet fans will be forward Phil Mangan. Mangan, 26, made his Komet debut on the road at Cincinnati during last Saturday night's 3-2 Komet win. The skater played his rookie season last year in the ECHL sharing stints with Stockton, South Carolina and Bakersfield for ECHL totals of 12 goals, 22 points and 26 penalty minutes in 65 games. Mangan appeared in two games this season with Rapid City before joining the Komets last weekend.
Hottest Ticket In Town-- Komet Hockey single game tickets and season tickets for 2013-14 are on sale now. Tip-A-Komet Tuesday at Applebee's-- The Komets invite all fans to the annual Tip-A-Komet benefit at Applebee's North Clinton location by the Coliseum Tuesday night, Nov. 19, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Fans have a chance to be served dinner by a Komet player as the entire team will be on-hand for the special night at Applebee's. Friday nights are Marathon nights-- Continuing this year, Friday nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free ticket offers for any Friday night Komet home game including this Friday night when the Komets host the Toledo Walleye at 8:00. Fill-Up Cards are available at all participating Marathon stations.
Komet hockey on WOWO, and Xfinity KometCast-- The legendary Bob Chase is celebrating his 61st consecutive season behind the Komet microphone. Sound Off with the Komets Monday Nights on 21Alive-- The Komets, 21Alive and title sponsor PHP present Sound Off with the Komets, a live weekly televised sports program each Monday night during the Komet season at 7:30pm on WPTA TV 21Alive. The half-hour show will be televised from Champions Bar and Restaurant in downtown Fort Wayne and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler. Monday, Nov. 18, Komet defenseman Nick Tuzzolino will be Tommy's guest.
ECHL Fantasy Team-- ECHL fans can log on to ECHL-dot-com to vote for their favorite players to help select the 2013-14 ECHL Fantasy Team, presented by The MeiGray Group and U-S-A Hockey. Fort Wayne fans can vote for their favorite Komet player and their other favorite players around the league. The top vote-getter on each team will wear a team jersey with a special American flag-themed front crest during the designated dates leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympics. The chosen Komet will wear the Fantasy Team jersey on Friday, Jan. 17 when the Komets host the Elmira Jackals. Voting runs through Friday, Nov. 22. Visit ECHL.com to cast your vote today!
