Komets Hold Second in West With Five Weeks Remaining

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets earned 2 points in last week's play to hold second place in the Western Division with a 1-point margin over third-place Quad City. The Komets hold a 32-22-4 record for 68 points after 21 weeks of the 2005-06 campaign.

Friday night the Komets whitewashed the visiting Mallards 4-0 as goaltender Kevin St. Pierre posted his 4th shutout of the season. Saturday both teams traveled back to Quad City where the Komets dropped the rematch 5-2. Sunday the Komets returned home and were clipped by the Flags 3-2 in Port Huron's last visit of the season.

Komets to skate another 3-game weekend

On the road to Missouri Friday.....the Komets and RiverOtters will face each other for the 7th time this season Friday night at Missouri's Family Arena at 8:00 (Fort Wayne time). The Komets lead the season series 5-1-0 after winning the last meeting 5-2 in Fort Wayne Feb. 3. The Komets have won 5 straight from division rival Missouri since dropping the first meeting of the season. The River Otters are 1-4-0 in their last 5 games, 6-5-1 in their last 12 and will host Flint Wednesday before hosting the Komets Friday night.

RiverDogs visit Saturday.....the Komets will host Richmond for the first and only time this season Saturday at 7:30pm. The Komets turned back the RiverDogs 3-1 in the only trip to Richmond this year on Dec. 10. Center Mike Oliveira is top Dog with 47 goals and 82 points. Richmond is coming off a split of a 2-game series at Roanoke last weekend and is 3-2-0 in their last 5 outings. The RiverDogs will play a make-up game at Elmira Wednesday, then skate at Rockford Friday before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday. Richmond is 6 points away from a playoff spot going into this week's play.

Komets welcome Wings Sunday.....the Komets will face the Wings Sunday at 5pm for the 6th of 7 times this season. The Komets are 3-2-0 vs. Kalamazoo over the previous 5 meetings. Sunday's tilt will be the second of 3 visits this season by the Wings. Kalamazoo is 9-1-1 in their last 11 games and lead the Central Division with 90 points, 1 point ahead of second-place Muskegon after a 6-0 shutout of Fury in Kalamazoo last Sunday afternoon. The Wings lead the UHL with 269 goals, 460 assists and 729 points after 61 games. Winger Nick Bootland has a current league-high 5-game goal streak (7g), winger Tyler Willis is riding a league-leading 4-game assist streak (7a) and center Jason Deitsch has a current UHL high 20-game point streak (36pts). Kalamazoo goalie Joel Martin leads UHL netminders with a 29-8-4 record, 2.17 goals-against average, .922 save percentage and 8 shutouts.

Chaulk scores 600.....Colin Chaulk (C) registered his 600th career point (assist) Friday, 3/10, at Quad City in the Komet's 4-0 win.....Guy Dupuis (D) notched his 250th career Komet point (assist) Saturday, 3/11 at Quad City.....the Komets have 299 UHL wins since joining the league in 1999.

St. Pierre registers 28th career shutout......Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre posted his 4th shutout of the season 4-0 on 27 saves Friday night in Quad City. St. Pierre owns the UHL and Fort Wayne franchise records for shutouts and now has 19 UHL, and 16 Komet career shutouts.

Komets player of the week: Brent Rumble (LW), 3gp, 1g, 2a, 6pim, had a point in each game played.

Komets goaltender of the week: Kevin St. Pierre, 3gp, 1-2-0, 6ga, 2.43gaa, 48/54, .889 spct, 1 shutout, 1 assist.

Molly McMaster becomes first woman Komet.....Molly McMaster's tour of the UHL made it's stop in Fort Wayne Sunday. McMaster, 29, is participating in one game in every UHL city this month as part of an initiative for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. McMaster was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer at the age of 23. McMasters met Komet fans after her appearance in the first period of Sunday's game. She skated the first shift of the game on a line with Komet forwards Colin Chaulk and Jonathan Goodwin, becoming the first woman to make an appearance with the Komets in an official game in the 54-year history of the Fort Wayne franchise.

Sunday skate with the Komets.....fans are encouraged to bring their skates again to the game this Sunday when the Komets host the Kalamazoo Wings at 5pm. Following all Sunday games during the regular season, Komet fans can enjoy a free skate, courtesy of Wendy's.
