THE WEEK THAT WAS:
March 10, 2006 @ Roanoke Valley (W 4-2)
Mike Oliveira's hat trick, which included a pair of shorthanded goals, led the RiverDogs to a 4-2 victory over arch-rivals Roanoke Valley. The RiverDogs trailed 1-0 before Oliveira tied it in the first. Oliveira's shorthanded goal at 3:31 of the second period put the Dogs out in front. Matt Miller scored the second of his two goals early in the 3rd period. RiverDogs newcomer Todd Grant scored the game winner with 2:40 left in the 3rd. With the RiverDogs on a 5-4 penalty kill and with the Viper's net empty for the extra attacker, Mike Oliveira completed his second hat trick of the season and a RiverDogs victory. Mike D'Alessandro was in nets for the RiverDogs. He stopped 26 of 28 Roanoke Valley shots. Joey Bastien collected a pair of assists for Richmond. Attendance: 1,426.
March 11, 2006 @ Roanoke Valley (L 5-3)
Jan Jas scored twice as the Roanoke Valley Vipers defeat the Richmond RiverDogs by the score of 5-3, splitting the two game set between the teams. The RiverDogs fell behind 1-0 before the RiverDogs three goal run, markers coming from Mike Oliveira (2) and Todd Grant. Midway through the second, the RiverDogs were in front 3-1. The Vipers made a comback with a four goal run and a victory. Mike D'Alessandro was in goal for the RiverDogs. Attendance: 1,989.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
The RiverDogs conclude the long seven game road trip beginning on Wednesday, March 15th, against the Elmira Jackals. The RiverDogs will travel to Rockford to face the Ice Hogs on Friday, March 17th, then finish up on Saturday, March 18th with their only visit to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and a date with the Fort Wayne Komets. The RiverDogs return to Richmond Coliseum ice on Wednesday, March 22, and a 7:05 game against the Roanoke Valley Vipers.
RIVERDOGS PLAYOFF PICTURE:
The RiverDogs, with their split in Roanoke, hold onto the 9th spot in the overall UHL standings with a record of 28-25-5 for 61 points. Holding the 8th spot is the Quad City Mallards, who have 67 points, however, the RiverDogs have three games in hand with the Mallards. The two teams will play only one time and that will be on Friday, April 14th, at The MARK of the Quad Cities in Moline, IL. In 7th place is the Motor City Mechanics. They have 68 points and have played 62 times, four more than the RiverDogs. In 10th are the Flint Generals, who have 57 points, five behind the RiverDogs and have played four more games than Richmond.
