Komets Front Office Takes 3 Awards

Fort Wayne, IN --- The UHL announced today that the Fort Wayne Komet Hockey Club was honored with 3 front office awards for the 2002-03 season.

Michael Franke, President of the Komets, was honored as Governor of the Year for his 2nd consecutive season as selected by the UHL Board of Governors. The 2002-03 season is the 4th season in the UHL for the Komets, co-owned by Franke and his brothers Stephen, David, William and Richard. The Franke Family has owned the Fort Wayne hockey team since 1990 and participated in the International Hockey League before joining the UHL in 1999.

David Franke was awarded the General Manager of the Year as voted by the Governors and team general managers. Franke guided the Komets to their first UHL Tarry Cup award with a 44-21-11 record and 99 points for the 2002-03 regular season championship.

The UHL broadcasters voted Bob Chase as Broadcaster of the Year. The 2002-03 campaign is Chase's 50th consecutive season of calling Komet hockey radio play-by-play.

Also honored by the UHL were Ryan Washatka of the Rockford IceHogs for Marketing Director of the Year, John Patch of the Flint Generals for Merchandise Director of the Year and Kevin Crawley of the Adirondack IceHawks for Public Relations Director of the Year.

UHL President/CEO Richard Brosal selected the Marketing and Merchandise Directors based on the success of each team's marketing and merchandising efforts throughout the season.
