Elmira Jackals News Release

After dropping Game One of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, the Elmira Jackals knew they had their work cut out for them. That work, as it turned out, was completed with a 4-2 win over the Adirondack IceHawks on Sunday night at the Coach USA Center in front of 2,782 fans. With the win, Elmira takes the first round of the Colonial Cup Playoffs three games to one.

The two teams would alternate goals in the first two periods. Adirondack opened the scoring 2:22 into the game on Frank Littlejohn's rocket past the right pad of Jeremy Symington for a 1-0 lead. Elmira responded at 14:47 of the second period when Randy Murphy scored from Trevor Burgess to knot the game at 1-1. Through the first two periods, the Jackals had out shot the IceHawks 24-15, but were still tied.

Adirondack did their best to grab the momentum with a J.C. Ruid goal on the power play at 5:53, a puck that was deflected in front of Symington and fluttered into the net just beyond his reach. But the Jackals took over the game from then on, with Glenn Stewart nabbing the equalizer at 7:29 from Rob Guinn and Randy Murphy, putting home a rebound from a Guinn point shot. Eddy Lowe scored next on a one timer from the slot, using a great feed from David Lessard to connect for the eventual game-winning goal at 15:36. Tom Clayton also picked up an assist on the goal. At 19:43, with Jason Wolfe on the bench from an extra attacker, Trevor Burgess scored a power play goal into an empty net after Trevor Senn picked up a late slashing call to ice the 4-2 win for the Jackals.

Symington stopped 16 shots for his third consecutive playoff victory, while Jason Wolfe deflected 32 of 35 in the loss. Elmira now advances to play the Fort Wayne Komets in the Eastern Conference Finals starting later this week. The Komets defeated Port Huron 6-2 on Sunday to sweep the best of five series in three games. Game dates and ticket information will be forthcoming later this week for the best of seven battle!
