
Generals Eliminate the Express/Atlantic City is Next

Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals defeated the Roanoke Express tonight 5-3 at the Roanoke Civic Center, winning their best-of-five series three games to one in the Kelly Cup Playoffs' Northeast Division Semi-Finals. With the victory, Greensboro advances to the divisional finals against the regular season division leaders, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The best-of-five series with the Boardwalk Bullies begins Friday at 7:35 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
The Generals got two goals and an assist from captain Jay Murphy in tonight's victory to lead the offense. Bryan Richardson and Kurt Drummond chipped in with a goal and an assist each, while David Whitworth notched the game-winning goal late in the second period. Former Express goaltender Daniel Berthiaume stonewalled 33 of 36 shots to secure the victory in the game and the series.
With the series triumph, the Generals will battle Atlantic City for the right to play in the Northern Conference Finals against either the Brabham Cup champion (regular season leaders) Toledo Storm or the Cincinnati Cyclones. The breakdown of the best-of-five Northeast Division Finals follows...
