Koenig and Barth Set Records as First Place Rox Beat Honkers

St. Cloud, MN- Trevor Koenig (St. Cloud State) tossed eight innings of scoreless baseball and claimed his seventh win of the season as St. Cloud (40-23) beat Rochester (34-31) by a score of 5-3. He tied the Rox single-season record for wins. Jordan Barth (Augustana) broke the Rox single-season record for extra-base hits. The Rox magic number to clinch the second half of the Great Plains West Division is four games.
In the first inning, Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) stole third base and scored on the same play via a throwing error from the catcher to go ahead 1-0.
Barth blasted a two-run home run to left field in the third inning, hitting his sixth of the season. It was on this hit he broke his fourth single-season record of the season for the Rox.
Ben Carew (Kent State) lined a two-run single up the middle in the fifth inning and scored Garett Delano (Brown) and Jack Kelly (Minnesota). He has driven in 21 runs on the season.
In his eight innings pitched, Koenig struck out six batters. The Northwoods League All-Star has not allowed a run in his last 20 innings on the mound. Joey Stock (St. John's) pitched parts of the ninth inning. Blake Stelzer (Concordia-St. Paul) claimed his fifth save of the season.

St. Cloud concludes its home series against Rochester on Sunday, August 4th at 4:05 p.m. It's Community All-Stars Night presented by Sentry Bank. Nine area youth will be awarded with the ultimate Rox experience. It's also the final Coborn's Kids Day of the summer, as children will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
