Knights Wait for New Suburban Arena To Break Ground
December 12, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Kansas City Knights News Release
Lenexa, Kansas. Jim Clark, Owner, and Bob Sundvold, General Manager and Head Coach, of the Kansas City KNIGHTS, announced today that the KNIGHTS will not be playing basketball for the 2005/2006 Season in the American Basketball Association.
Clark stated, "Having played at Kemper, Municipal and Hale Arena(s) and Johnson County Community College, it is clear the KNIGHTS need a venue that provides our fans the amenities of a large suburban arena. We have decided to wait until a new Suburban Arena has started which we anticipate to occur in early 2006. Once the new arena "breaks ground', the KNIGHTS will play at an interim facility for one season."
Sundvold added, "The current situation does not allow the KNIGHTS to provide a consistent, high-quality professional basketball game experience for the great basketball fans of Kansas City. We will be working on establishing a "home court" and working within our organization to provide that experience."
Clark continued, "The KNIGHTS have had four successful seasons in the ABA Professional Basketball League and were looking forward to having our 100th win this season. We especially thank our fans, sponsors, season ticket holders and over 100 professional basketball players who have worn the KNIGHTS jersey with pride. We are proud of our winning tradition and the success we enjoyed on and off the court:
* 2001/2002 ABA League Champions and 2nd Place finish in 2003/2004 * 2004/2005 ABA Quarterfinal Play-offs * Breaking Kansas City consecutive game "win" record with 26 wins in 2002 * Fifteen former KNIGHTS players called-up to play in the NBA * An overall record of 99 Wins and 29 Losses."
The KNIGHTS will continue the KNIGHTS Academy at www.knightsacademy.net and participate in youth basketball across the Kansas City area. You can also receive the latest news on the KNIGHTS at its new website www.knightball.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
