Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, WA. The ABA Bellingham Slam carried a 95-86 lead into the fourth quarter but came out on the short end in a 115-112 loss to the Tacoma Navigators at Whatcom Pavilion. The Slam dominated the Navigators in the early going, holding them to only 12 points in the first quarter, though Tacoma responded with 38 in the second quarter and trailed 59-50 at halftime.

The Navigators began to whittle away at the Slam lead with about nine minutes remaining in the game, and tied it up at 105 with 4:50 to play on a Jamal Miller three-pointer. A thunderous alley oop dunk by Mike Parker from Brandon Hartley restored the Slam lead at 107-105 on the very next possession, but that too was answered by another Tacoma three-pointer, this time by Jimmy Rainwater, who finished with a game-high 39 points. A putback by Slam newcomer Eric Sandrin put Bellingham back up by one at 109-108 with 4:01 to play, but that would be the last time the Slam would lead. Trailing by three with less than 20 seconds remaining, the Slam's Caleb Gervin got off three different three-point attempts in a desparate attempt to tie the game, but to no avail.

Gervin led the Slam in scoring for the sixth consecutive game with 24 points while forward Eric Sandrin playing in his first game for the Slam while center T.J. Williams recovers from a broken hand, had 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The loss snapped the Slam's four game winning streak and give the team its first home loss after starting out 5-0 at Whatcom Pavilion. With the win, the Navigators improved to 5-2 on the season while the loss pushed the Slam back to 5-5. The Slam return to action after an eight day break on Tuesday, December 20th as the San Jose Skyrockets visit Bellingham for the first time. Gametime is set for 7pm at Whatcom Pavilion.
