Gallup Outlaws News Release

Gallup, NM. The ABA Gallup Talons were able to prevail over the Orange County Buzz 126-125 in a game that came down to the final seconds. With the Talons trailing 125-124 with 15 seconds left, Brandon Mason found Louis Richardson who cut towards the middle of the lane and converted on a tough leaning shot as he was fouled, giving the Talons a 126-125 lead. After Richardson missed the free throw, the Buzz had the ball for one last shot with eight seconds left and trailing by one. The Talons came out and played their best defensive possession of the night as Anthony West was able to prevent Buzz guard Kamran Sufi from penetrating the lane and Brandon Mason locked off leading Buzz scorer Eric Holmes. Sufi was forced into taking a shot amidst several Talon defenders that ended up going over the hoop giving the talons the win in fron of a capacity crowd of Talon fans who were into the game from the start.

"It was a great game, it came down to the final seconds and we played tough and got the win," said Talons head coach Clayton Shields. The Talons were tough and relentless on this night as all five starters for the Talons were in double digits, including leading Talons scorer Bernard McIntosh who scored 32 on the night. He was also a force inside as he recorded 18 rebounds and 15 of 22 from the foul line.

Will Funn, one of the league's top assist leaders, is now averaging 16.1 assists per game through six games. Eric Holmes led the Buzz in scoring with 44. The win brings the Talons record to 6-0. Their next home game will be December 19 and 20 vs the Tijuana Dragons. For more information about tickets, call the Gallup Talons office at 722-2080 or visit the Gallup Herald.
