Gallup to return under new ownership
April 4, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Gallup Outlaws News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that Gallup, New Mexico will return next season under new ownership. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We are delighted to have Gallup back in the ABA. The people of Gallup really took to their team and supported it beautifully. And, the team was one of the best in the league under the leadership of Head coach Clayton Shields who will be returning as head coach. We were also pleased that several of the team members were able to play in the playoffs. It was unfortunate that the season ended as it did. We are confident that the new ownership group will meet all of the ABA standards and requirements and run a great basketball operation in the great city of Gallup."
The team will be owned by Keith and Debora Money. Keith was born and raised in Gallup, NM and graduated from Gallup High School in 1978. From there he went onto Allen Hancock Junior College on a basketball scholarship. After two years, he transferred to Lubbuck Christian College and graduated with a BA in Education. He moved back to Gallup and taught at the Gallup Middle School. Currently he is employed by the City of Gallup and has been for the last 15 years. Keith, along with the help of his family, friends and coaching staff are prepared to bring excitement back to the City of Gallup with his participation in the ABA league. The family also owns Ed Corley Nissan (Yes We Can) in Gallup and pledges to bring the "Yes We Can" attitude to the team. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
