April 4, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Chicago Rockstars News Release
Chicago, IL. The Chicago Rockstars announced today that they will be holding player tryouts at the University of Illinois at Chicago's Physical Education Building on April 22nd starting at 8am. The Lady Rockstars dance team will also hold their tryouts on April 22 at the UIC-PEB. "The facility is large enough to facilitate both tryouts," said Marques Sullivan, president and CEO of the Rockstars. "We thank UIC for their generosity and support of the team," Mr. Sullivan added.
Located at 901 West Roosevelt Road, the Physical Education Building hosts numerous athletic events throughout the year, including the National Wheelchair Basketball Final Four, the Midwest Chinese Basketball Association and the Tohkon Judo Tournament. The facility was also featured on CBS's Early Edition starring actor Kyle Chandler.
The Chicago Rockstars are looking for talent across the country. Head coach Kenny Williams, a former member of the Seattle Supersonics and a 9-year veteran of the Euro Basketball League is an alumnus of UIC and knows what it takes to succeed in professional sports. "We not only want to form a successful team but also teach our players the necessary tools to make it into the NBA." Players will go through rigorous drills and scrimmages to test their level of play, conditioning level, basketball knowledge and overall passion for the game. The tryout time is between 8am until 10pm. The Rockstars will be able to accomodate all players that choose to tryout for the team.
The Lady Rockstars will also have its first of two tryouts. The first tryout will also be held at the UIC-PEB in a separate space in the building. UIC's Physical Education Building is home to the nationally ranked Flames' men's and women's gymnastic teams. "It is the perfect location to hold dance team tryouts," said Ayanna Peters, former University of Michigan All-American gymnast and dance team coordinator.
The Chicago Rockstars are looking for 10 beautiful, athletic, energetic and responsible women to join the "Lady Rockstars" Dance Team. Lady Rockstars will perform during Rockstars home games and participate in team public appearances and promotional events. The dance team will also be featured in the Lady Rockstars Swimsuit Edition Calendar. Prospective members must be 21 years old with and be able to attend all home games as well as practices during the season. The Lady Rockstars must maintain good physical condition and the ability to represent a pro basketball team in a professional manner. Dance experience is not required but is suggested.
