Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Nate Mondou didn't start on Saturday, but the Charlotte infielder made the biggest impact in an offensive-laden game.
Mondou launched a grand slam in Charlotte's six-run fourth inning to propel the Knights to a 9-3 win over the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night in game five of the six-game series from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The win was Charlotte's first of the series.
In the top of the fourth inning, Mondou entered the game as a replacement at first base for Xavier Fernández after he left the game due to injury. In the bottom of the inning, Mondou stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and launched a 379-foot grand slam. The home run was his 12th of the season and it was Charlotte's fourth grand slam of the year. He finished the game 1-for-1 with the grand slam and four RBI on the night.
In all, the Knights tallied nine hits on the evening and left fielder Tyler Naquin chipped in with two of them. Naquin hit his eighth home run of the season, a solo blast in the second inning. He also added an RBI double in the game. Catcher Adam Hackenberg also had a solid day at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
RHP Chase Solesky (2-9, 6.28) started Saturday's game and was sharp over six shutout innings to earn his second win of the season. Solesky allowed six hits and just one walk en route to the game-five victory. He also fanned five batters on the night.
The two teams will conclude the six-game series on Sunday evening from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. from the home of the Charlotte Knights. Sunday's game is the final home game of the 2023 season for the Knights, who will finish the season on the road next week in Memphis, TN against the Memphis Redbirds.
