Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights returned home on Thursday night to open their fifth season at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. In front of a sold-out crowd of 10,320 fans, the Knights dropped their 2018 home opener by a score of 11-1 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees).
RHP Chris Beck started for the Knights and was sharp over three shutout innings. Beck, who started the game in place of scheduled starter Chris Volstad, struck-out six batters in his three innings of work. Volstad had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox before the game.
The Knights recorded four hits on the night, including a solo home run by right fielder Daniel Palka -- his first of the season. Palka's home run came in the bottom of the fourth inning off Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting pitcher Josh Rogers (1-0, 2.25), who allowed just one run on three hits to earn the win. Rogers struck-out 10 batters on the night.
Charlotte RHP Tyler Danish (0-1, 8.44) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits over two innings.
The Knights will continue their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte on Friday night against the RailRiders. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:04 p.m. game.
