Indianapolis Indians News Release

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jose Osuna homered and Christopher Bostick hit a run-scoring triple as the Indianapolis Indians handed the Buffalo Bisons a 2-1 defeat in their home opener Thursday evening at Coca-Cola Field. Osuna's solo shot in the sixth was Indy's first long ball of the season.

Indianapolis (4-3) scored both of its runs in the sixth off Buffalo southpaw Chad Girodo. With one away, Osuna cranked the second pitch of his at-bat long enough for a home run, but the blast hooked foul. Five pitches later, Osuna hit another long ball - this time fair - to give the Tribe a 1-0 lead. Jacob Stallings later singled and scored from first on Bostick's triple to right-center.

Tribe relievers Tyler Jones and Johnny Hellweg made the 2-0 advantage hold up. Buffalo (2-2) right fielder Tesocar Hernandez took Jones deep for a two-out homer in the sixth to pull within one run, but the Bisons left the bases loaded in the ninth to fall back to .500.

Jones (W, 1-0) worked three innings of one-run ball to earn the win. Hellweg (S, 2) recorded the final six outs but walked the tightrope in the ninth, allowing two singles and a walk - all with two down - before striking out Darnell Sweeney on three pitches.

Indians starter Tyler Eppler cruised through four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk with one strikeout, but his outing was cut short due to a 1-hour, 39-minute rain delay.

Kevin Newman and Bostick recorded multi-hit games in the triumph.

The Indians and Bisons continue their four-game set on Friday, April 13 at Coca-Cola Field, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Alex McRae (0-0, 2.45) will start for Indianapolis, opposite Bisons righty Chris Rowley.
