Knicks Come Up Short At Home

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, nearly got the better of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants but fell 122-119 in their first game back from the 2023 NBA All-Star break, Friday evening at Total Mortgage Arena.

Garrison Brooks (affiliate) and MJ Walker (returning rights) both mirrored 24 points for the Knicks (8-12). Brooks also came away with nine rebounds and three assists. Walker added four rebounds and two three-pointers off the bench. James Akinjo (affiliate) finished with 20 points, 11 assists and three steals. DaQuan Jeffries (Two-Way) concluded with 20 points, four assists and three steals. Melvin Frazier Jr. (trade) collected a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds.

For Fort Wayne (13-9), Pedro Bradshaw tallied 25 points and nine rebounds. Jermaine Samuels Jr. had 15 points and 14 boards. Trevelin Queen chipped in 24 points. Tevin Brown contributed 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Knicks won each quarter excluding the first, with its largest margin occurring in the fourth quarter, 30-23. Fort Wayne came out hot overtaking the Knicks in the first quarter, 42-24.

The Mad Ants led by as many as 22 points which occurred in the second quarter. While the Knicks were unable to lead tonight, they did come within single digits in the fourth quarter and within just one with 11 seconds to go. Empty possessions penalized Westchester and despite the surge of momentum it had, Fort Wayne converted baskets when it mattered most included the Mad Ants final trip to the line which proved to settle the final.
