Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IND-The RailCats offense returned to lead them to a 8-4 win over Sioux Falls as they took the rubber match of the three game series on Wednesday afternoon. The win was number 800 for Manager Greg Tagert, his 388th as the skipper of the RailCats.

A day after being shutout for the first time this season, the RailCats offense went to work in the second inning against Pheasants starter Peter Gehle. Mike Rohde and Chris Carrara hit back-to-back RBI singles. David Cooper dropped down a squeeze bunt to score Carrara and Adam Klein followed with an RBI hit to cap a four-run inning. Gehle got the emergency start for Sioux Falls after scheduled starter Alan DeRatt came down with the flu.

Sioux Falls came back to plate a run in the top of the fourth against RailCats starter Derek Drage, but the "˜Cats came back with four more in the bottom of the frame. Klein hit a two-out, two-run single and Mike Massaro tacked on a two-run double to left to increase the lead to 8-1.

Things got a little closer in the seventh when Al Quintana scored from first on a Joe Anthonson double. In the eighth inning, Cesar Nicolas drew a lead-off walk and Cristian Guerrero hit his second home run of the series, a two-run bomb to left, to make the score 8-4.

Klein started in left field for the second straight game and recorded nine putouts, which set the American Association's record for outfield putouts in a single game, topping the previous mark of eight. The record-breaker came in the seventh inning when Trevor Lawhorn flew out.

Drage (1-1) lost in his first start last Saturday, but was much improved in his second start. He gave up a run on three hits in five innings, with three walks and a strikeout.

The RailCats will have a day off Thursday and will travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba to start a three-game series with the Goldeyes on Friday. Right-hander Kyle Wilson (0-1, 3.86) will start for the RailCats.
