El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, TX- Trailing 12-7 to the Kansas City T-Bones after four and a half innings, the Diablos scored the final six runs of the evening, including one in the bottom of the ninth to win their third game of the season and head into a six-game road trip with a victory.
Javier Brito's double in the 9th scored Nelson Teilon, who had doubled to lead off the frame, giving El Paso a much-needed win and sending the team and fans in attendance into a frenzy. The hit was Brito's second of the extra base variety after a two-run triple in the fourth.
The two teams combined for 25 runs and 34 hits in a see-saw battle that appeared destined to end in another Diablos loss. Kansas City got two-run home runs from Bubby Williams (1) and Devin Goodwin (2), with Goodwin's the biggest blow in a seven run top of the fifth for the T-Bones. Kansas City chased El Paso starter Freddy Flores after just four plus innings and were poised for the series sweep.
But the Diablos began chipping away at the lead in the bottom half, scoring two runs on Maikol Gonzalez's RBI single and an RBI groundout from Bryan Frichter. They added two more the very next inning on a sac fly from Jonathan Cisneros and Gonzalez's second RBI single in as many innings.
Trailing by just one, the Diablos turned to Geivy Garcia (1-2) on the mound, who struck out four batters in two innings of work to earn the victory, including striking out the side in the ninth.
Facing T-Bones reliever Sean Toler (0-1), El Paso strung together doubles by Teilon and Brito to earn the victory and send the crowd home happy on Military Appreciation Night at Cohen Stadium.
The Diablos have a day off on Thursday before heading to Laredo to begin a six game road trip with the Lemurs and the Amarillo Sox. Those games can be heard on Fox Sports Radio 1380 AM in El Paso. Reymond Cruz is scheduled to receive the start in game one of the series with Laredo on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
