Kleinknecht, Braves Walk Off in Extra Innings

PEARL, MS -- Barrett Kleinknecht delivered a single to left field, driving home David Rohm to send the Mississippi Braves to a 6-5 walkoff victory over the Jacksonville Suns Friday night at Trustmark Park. The win was also the M-Braves fourth-consecutive victory. The series continues with game four Saturday at 6:00 PM.

Mississippi (13-15) scored six runs on 15 hits while Jacksonville (12-16) plated five runs on 11 hits. David Rohm turned in a perfect night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Former Atlanta Brave Rafael Furcal went 1-for-2 in a Major League rehab assignment with the Suns. He led off the game with a single and grounded into a double play to end the third.

Trailing 5-4, the M-Braves fought back in the ninth to force extra innings. Rohm reach on a two-out single to left field and Kyle Kubitza walked. Kleinknecht then delivered the game-winning drive to left field, ending the game with a 6-5 victory in 10 innings.

The M-Braves took an early 1-0 lead in the second. Seth Loman led off with a double to left field and took third on a wild pitch. Cedric Hunter then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field.

Jacksonville took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Brady Shoemaker and Alex Burg walked. J.T. Realmuto then reached on an error by the second baseman, loading the bases with one out. Ryan Fisher followed with a two-run single to center to give Jacksonville the lead.

Kubitza, Gustavo Nunez and Matt Kennelly led off the fifth with singles to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Kubitza to score and tie the game at 2-2. Jason Hursh then singled to left, bringing home Nunez. A bunt single by Mycal Jones added another run, extending the M-Braves lead to 4-2.

Alex Burg launched a solo homer into the M-Braves bullpen in the sixth to make it 4-3, and the Suns tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh. Isaac Galloway doubled and moved to third on a ground out. He then came in to score on Alfredo Silverio's sacrifice fly to center field.

Realmuto led off the ninth with a walk and Fisher doubled to right field. Gallaway then reached on an error by the left fielder, allowing Realmuto to score the go-ahead run.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Rohm and Kleinknecht singled to put runners at the corners. Kennelly then drove in the tying run with a base hit.

Chasen Shreve (1-0) walked the final frame to pick up his first win of the season. Grant Dayton (0-1) worked the final 1.2 innings, suffering the loss and a blown save.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Hursh gave up three earned runs on six hits, a homer and two walks in six innings pitched for the Braves. He struck out four. Angel Sanchez tossed six innings for the Suns, giving up four earned runs on nine hits. He struck out three batters.

The M-Braves and Suns square off in game four of a five-game series Saturday at 6:00 PM. Braves right-hander William Perez (2-2, 1.32) counters Suns lefty Justin Nicolino (2-2, 2.83). Gates open at 5:00 PM.
