Anderson, BayBears Shut Out Barons 5-0

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Mobile BayBears took their second straight game over the Barons, topping Birmingham 5-0 at Regions Field Thursday night. RHP Chase Anderson threw 7.1 shutout innings en rout to the BayBears sixth win in the last seven games. Mobile now sits atop of the Southern League South Division with a 17-10 record.

The BayBears are 13-1 when scoring first. Mike Freeman led off the game with a base hit on the very first pitch from Barons RHP Chris Beck. David Peralta doubled to drive in Freeman. Jake Lamb followed with a RBI base hit driving in Peralta and Lamb scored on a RBI double off the bat of Raywilly Gomez, giving Mobile a 3-0 lead.

The BayBears added two more runs in the fifth frame when Peralta drove in Justin Greene with a RBI double and Gomez walked with the bases loaded, extending Mobile's lead to five. Peralta finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in.

Anderson improved to 3-2, allowing just three hits, walking one and striking out seven over the 7.1 innings of work.

Friday night, the Barons and BayBears continue the series at Regions Field with first pitch at 7:05 PM. RHP Myles Jaye (0-3, 5.63) with take the hill for Birmingham while LHP Andrew Chafin (2-0, 1.21) will get the nod for Mobile. The BayBears return home for a five game series with the Mississippi Braves beginning Monday, May 5, at 7:05 PM.
