Kitchener Battles to 7-5 Win Over Barrie

Jason Akeson scored two goals and marked an assist to be named the first star of the Kitchener Rangers 7-5 win over the Barrie Colts.

The Rangers doubled up on shots 10-5 in the first period but were unable to get past Barrie net-minder Peter Di Salvo. Darren Archibald scored the lone goal of the period for Barrie at the 9:06 mark.

Just seven seconds in to the Rangers power play, Tobias Rieder picked up a rebound off the boards to tie the game 1-1 at 2:42 of the second period. Tanner Pearson scored off of a feed from Mark Scheifele at 6:49 to give the Colts a 2-1 lead. Colin Behenna directed a slap shot from the point by Mackenzie Braid to the back of Kitchener's net at 10:56 to increase Barrie's lead 3-1. Just over a minute later, Rieder replied with his second goal to tighten the game 3-2 and close scoring in the period.

The Rangers scored four goals in just over five minutes of the third period to gain a 6-3 advantage. Jason Akeson netted two-in-a-row within 18-seconds to give Kitchener a 4-3 lead by the 1:03 mark. Ryan Murphy made it 5-3 on a wraparound goal at 2:42 and Matia Marcantuoni followed up at 5:10 with a power play goal. Barrie fought back to score two power play goals by the 14:58 mark and make it a one goal game. Andrew Crescenzi answered back at 15:40 to close scoring in the game and give the Rangers a 7-5 victory.

The Rangers travel to Erie tomorrow for a 7:00pm game against the Otters. They return home on Monday, October 11th to host Erie. Game time is 1:00pm.
