Cazzola Picks Up Three Points In Otters 3-2 Win
October 8, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
Mike Cazzola led the way in his hometown of Guelph with a goal and two assists for the Erie Otters (3-3-0-0) as a great glove save by Ramis Sadikov ensured Erie with a 3-2 win over the Storm Friday night. The Otters won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The Storm picked up a pair of goals 56 seconds apart late in the first period, as Cody McNaughton and Peter Holland tallied goals at 17:41 and 18:37, respectively, to put the Storm on the board.
The Otters stormed back in the second period with three unanswered goals, starting 19 seconds into a frame on a beauty by Greg McKegg. The captain weaved down the right wing into the Guelph zone and beat defender David Searle around his back to put in a backhander between the legs of Garret Sparks for his fourth of the season.
Cazzola tied the game at 12:42 after deflecting a shot from Mitch Gaulton at the top of the crease for his third goal of the season. McKegg then provided a perfect pass for Shawn Szydlowski in the slot, and the Michigan native blasted the puck top shelf on the short side for his second marker of the season at 16:01 and giving the Otters a 3-2 lead into the third.
That goal would prove to be the game-winner, but almost wasn't if not for Sadikov. With the Otters shorthanded and the Guelph net empty, Sadikov robbed Matt Sisca on a one-timer from the slot to preserve the win for the Otters. The save was Sadikov's 31st, which was his final total on 33 Guelph shots.
Joining Cazzola with good nights were Szydlowski (1g, 1a) and McKegg (1g, 1a) as the top line has continued to impress in the early stages of the season.
The Otters return home for the first of back-to-back games against the Kitchener Rangers Saturday night at 7:00 p.m, sponsored by Papa John's Pizza. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, the Tullio Arena Box Office, online at ottershockey.com, or by calling 452-4857.
