Majors Shutout Petes

October 8, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors bounced back after a tough outing last Sunday to shut out the Peterborough Petes, 3-0 tonight at the Hershey Centre. The win improves the Majors to 4-1-0-0 on the season.

The first period provided nothing to the story line of tonight's game. It wasn't until the 12:40 mark of the second period when the action began to pick up. It was a fight between Majors defenceman Alex Cord and Peterborough winger Derek Mathers that seemed to wake the Majors up. From that point Mississauga began to have momentum swing in their favour as they outplayed the Petes for the duration of the second period.

At 3:08 of the third period Mississauga scored when Casey Cizikas beat Andrew D'Agostini up high to make it 1-0. Marc Cantin made a good play to keep the puck in the Petes zone and Riley Brace fed the puck to Devante Smith-Pelly, who was behind the Petes goal all alone. Smith-Pelly had all the time in the world to supply Cizikas with the set-up. Just 38 seconds later the Majors increased their lead when Joseph Cramarossa scored his second goal of the season to make it 2-0. Cramarossa redirected the pass from Gregg Sutch to beat D'Agostini. Rob Flick added an empty netter in the closing seconds, making it 3-0 and that would be the final in this one.

JP Anderson made 14 saves and earned the shutout for the Majors. Andrew D'Agostini was far busier stopping 32 shots in a losing effort. Mississauga will be in action on Monday when they meet their Peel Regional rivals the Brampton Battalion at the Powerade Centre at 2:00 p.m. Ticket packages for the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup are still on sale. To purchase yours contact the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.1.

Notes: Majors defenceman Marc Cantin made his season debut after missing the first four games due to a broken jaw he suffered over the summer. Stuart Percy was out of the line-up for the third straight game for Mississauga. Tonight marked the first time the Majors wore their new third jerseys.
