Niagara IceDogs News Release
Niagara IceDogs captain Andrew Agozzino scores the OT winner as the Dogs beat the Sudbury Wolves 4-3 in Sudbury Friday night.
Freddie Hamilton and Steven Shipley chipped in with a goal and assist each, while Chicago Blackhawks draft pick David Pacan scored his first OHL goal to boost the IceDogs in their overtime win. Agozzino, Hamilton, and Steven Shipley have all been hot for the IceDogs in their past few games, recording 9 goals and 10 assists combined.
The Sudbury Wolves opened the scoring at the 12:06 mark of the first period as Mike Lomas won the draw to Josh Leivo, who stepped into the circle and wristed a shot past John Chartrand, who got the start tonight, to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead, which they took into the first intermission.
The first period had an evident physical tone which resulted in one of the IceDogs' newest members, Jason Wilson, dropping the gloves with Wolves' assistant captain Marcus Folingo.
The IceDogs came back to start the second as Dougie Hamilton blasted a shot from the point and the rebound made its way onto the stick of brother Freddie Hamilton who made no mistake and put the puck into the net to tie the game 1-1.
Steven Shipley then followed up to give the IceDogs their first lead, 2-1, and pick up his second point of the game. Freddie Hamilton also tallied his second point of the night on the play, while Myles Doan picked up his first.
Another new face on the IceDogs squad, David Pacan, picked up his first OHL goal towards the end of the second period to give the Dogs a 3-1 lead.
Dougie Hamilton took a checking from behind penalty late in the second, which allowed Sudbury's John MacFarland to capitalize on the power play to cut the IceDogs lead to 3-2 going into the second intermission.
The Wolves took a four minute checking from behind penalty early in the third, but the IceDogs couldn't find the back of the net and the score remained 3-2.
Sudbury thought they had tied the game late in the third, but the play was called as a goaltender interference infraction, and the goal was disallowed, leaving the IceDogs with a 3-2 lead.
With just under two minutes left in the third period, Marcus Folingo tied the game for the Wolves with a beautiful goal to bring the game into overtime.
The overtime period wouldn't last long, as IceDogs captain Andrew Agozzino potted a clutch goal to give the IceDogs the overtime win!
Niagara will return to action tomorrow night as they visit the Barrie Colts with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
