Kipper's Gem Spoiled by Healy's Walk-Off

April 15, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

Midland, TX - The Arkansas Travelers and Midland RockHounds entered the ninth inning without a run, but 1B Ryon Healy's walk-off home run powered Midland to the 1-0 victory on Friday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

RHP Jordan Kipper and RHP Daniel Mengden dueled, and both twirled gems. Kipper tossed seven scoreless innings for Arkansas and allowed just four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Kipper escaped a runners on first and third jam in the seventh by inducing back-to-back strikeouts and getting SS Franklin Barreto to fly out to end the inning.

Mengden coincidentally finished with the exact same line he produced in his first start of the year against Arkansas. The righty worked six innings and allowed two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Arkansas mustered three doubles in the game, but two of the three came with two outs.

Healy finished Thursday's game with a home run, three hits and five RBIs.

His home run on Friday was hit into the left field bullpen off RHP Alan Busenitz (L, 0-1) who had pitched a 1-2-3 eighth.

RHP Aaron Kurcz (W, 2-0) worked the ninth for Midland and earned the victory.

Arkansas finished 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

With the loss, the Travs fell to 2-6 on the season and the 'Hounds improved to 4-4. The two teams will conclude the three-game series on Saturday night at Security Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
