April 15, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Luis Marte recorded three extra-base hits and the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, scored seven runs for the second night in a row to knock off the visiting Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 7-1, in front of a crowd of 8,092 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
After hitting a solo home run in last night's win, Marte went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and 3 RBI. Marte entered the series with just two extra-base hits, but has already registered four in the series and is batting 5-for-7 overall with five runs batted in the first two games of the set against the Naturals (3-5).
With a 3-1 lead through four innings, the RoughRiders (7-1) blew things open in the bottom of the fifth. Isiah Kiner-Falefa led off the frame with a single, and Ryan Cordell followed with an RBI double. Lewis Brinson extended Frisco's lead to 5-1 with a triple that plated Cordell.
After a Preston Beck walk later in the inning chased Naturals starter Christian Binford (0-2) from the game, Marte unleashed a two-run triple into the gap in left-center field to make it 7-1. The RoughRiders exploded for seven extra-base hits in the game, including four in the fifth inning.
Connor Sadzeck (2-0) picked up another win over the Naturals, holding Northwest Arkansas to just one run and striking out five batters in five innings of work. The Naturals' lone run came on a home run by Raul Mondesi in the top of the fifth.
The win moves Frisco to 7-1 on the year, and keeps the RoughRiders on pace with the record-setting start of the 2008 squad. The RoughRiders remain perfect against the Naturals in five games this season and hope to make it a 6-0 record against the visitors from Springdale, Arkansas when they meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. showdown at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Right-handed pitcher Sam Wolff (1-0, 1.50 ERA) is slated to make the start for Frisco against Northwest Arkansas righty Jake Junis (0-0, 2.08 ERA).
Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday is Girl Scouts Night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. In addition, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a Riders concert-style T-shirt. Plus, post-game entertainment will be provided by Adrian Johnston.
