Johnson Reaches Base Five Time in 9-3 Loss

Midland, TX - The Arkansas Travelers fell 9-3 to the Midland RockHounds at Security Bank Ballpark on Thursday night in the opener of a six-game road trip.

The Travs scored a run in both the first and second innings, but the 'Hounds plated seven straight to take a 7-2 lead in the fourth.

Arkansas starter RHP Victor Alcantara (L, 1-1) was pulled in the fourth, a start after tossing six shutout innings against the same RockHounds. In his 3.1 innings on Thursday, Alcantara allowed six runs (five earned) on four hits with six walks and no strikeouts.

Travs 2B Sherman Johnson reached bases in all five of his plate appearances. Johnson finished 3-for-3 with two walks and has reached base in eight of his last nine plate appearances.

Midland 1B Ryon Healey had a monstrous game offensively. Healy, who finished a triple shy of the cycle, knocked an RBI double to tie the game 2-2 in the third, a two-run single in the fourth and a two-run home run in the eighth to make it 9-3. In total, Healy went 3-for-5 with the home run and five RBIs.

The RockHounds stole five bases in the game without getting caught stealing.

CF Chad Hinshaw went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs for the Travs and C Wade Wass had his first Double-A multi-hit game with a pair of singles.

With the loss, Arkansas fell to 2-5 on the season. The two teams will play the middle game of the three-game series on Friday at Security Bank Ballpark. RHP Jordan Kipper (1-0, 1.69) will toe the rubber for the Travs and will be opposed by RHP Daniel Mengden (0-1, 3.53). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
