Kinston Indians News Release

The pitching was frightfully good, as Salem shutout the K-Tribe 1-0 Friday night in Virginia. Kinston starter Ryan Edell pitched six innings, striking out a season high nine batters and giving up just five hits. Edell (9-3) was rewarded with a no decision, lowering his ERA to 3.00, the fourth lowest mark in the Carolina League. Salem countered with starter Sergio Perez, who pitched six scoreless innings of three hit ball. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Salem's Billy Hart hit a triple off of K-Tribe reliever Erik Stiller. It was Hart's second triple of the night. Stiller walked the next batter and with runners at the corners pinch hitter Mark Ori hit into a double-play, scoring Hart. Stiller (2-2) was stuck with the loss, giving up two hits in two innings. Salem reliever Ryan McKeller (6-3) picked up the win, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. Salem closer Samuel Gervacio hung on for his 14th save of the season, striking out the final three batters of the game after giving up a lead-off hit to Kinston's Mike Butia in the top of the ninth inning.

Kinston came into the game 3-0 in Friday the 13th contests dating back to 2004. The K-Tribe will try to salvage a split of this four game series tomorrow at 6:07pm at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Kinston will send Kevin Dixon to the hill for the series finale.
