Kingston Rallies, Downs Spirit 4-3

(Saginaw) -- The Spirit battled back three times during Friday night's game against visiting Kingston, but the Frontenacs were able to break through for a 4-3 win. The teams played a scoreless first period, then Kingston's Bobby Hughes opened the second period with an unassisted goal.

Saginaw equalized on a Sean Courtney goal, Patrick McNeill assisted. The game went into the third tied 1-1. Kingston center Todd Griffith scored in the first minute-30 to take Kingston up 2-1, but Saginaw answered two minutes later when forward Marek Kvapil scored on a Matt Corrente pass. Kvapil joined the Spirit mid-week from the Czech Republic. It was his first OHL goal, and Corrente's first OHL assist. Patrick Asselin also assisted on the goal.

Kingston scored on the power play in the 11th minute of the game to take the lead, but Saginaw fired back on the power play when Patrick Asselin scored on a Patrick McNeill pass. Kvapil also assisted.

Spirit goaltender Mike Brown had 26 saves in the contest. The loss takes Saginaw's record to 2-4-1-2 on the season, good for seven points. Saginaw returns to action tomorrow night in Owen Sound against the Attack. The Spirit return to the Dow Event Center on Friday, October 22nd to face the Belleville Bulls.
