Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON â After being defeated 5-3 by the IceDogs in Toronto last night, the Majors traveled to Mississauga this evening for the back-end of their home-and-home series. The IceDogs quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Majors stormed back with five unanswered goals to skate away with a 5-2 win.
Patrick O'Sullivan got the scoring started for the IceDogs, in an unassisted, shorthanded effort at 12:27 of the opening frame. Then, defenceman Kyle Quincey made it 2-0 at 17:23, on the power-play, with the assists going to Anthony Butera and Tom Zanoski. However, the Majors came out with a purpose in the 2nd period. Scott Lavigne notched his 1st goal of the year at 13:57. The assists were credited to Ryan Rorabeck and Ryan Wilson. Then, less than a minute-and-a-half later, Wilson produced a shorthanded goal off a Tyler Haskins pass.
The momentum continued in the 3rd period as Cory Vitarelli struck on the power-play 48 seconds in with Rorabeck drawing the lone assist. Then, Scott Lehman made it a 4-2 game, on the power-play, at 8:05, with Wilson and Darryl Boyce providing support. Finally, Rorabeck tallied an unassisted, empty-netter at 19:43.
Justin Peters got the start for the Majors and turned aside 29 shots while David Shantz blocked 22 for Mississauga. The Majors finished the night 2 for 5 on the power-play while the IceDogs were 1 for 5. The game's three stars were Vitarelli (1st), O'Sullivan (2nd) and Wilson (3rd). It was the first regulation loss of the season for the IceDogs.
