Otters and Whalers skate to draw

PLYMOUTH, MI – Tim Sestito scored the game-tying goal seven minutes into the third period as the Erie Otters and the Plymouth Whalers skated to a 2-2 overtime tie in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2,660 at the Compuware Sports Arena.

Mike Blunden and David Herring scored power-play goals to account for the Otters scoring.

Ryan O'Marra collected two assists while Geoff Platt saw his season-opening point scoring streak end at five games.

John Mitchell netted the other Whalers goal.

The Otters are now 4-1-1 on the season while the Whalers moved to 4-3-1-1.

The Otters, who ended a 0-15 road power play skid, led 2-1 after the first and second periods.

Jhase Sniderman earned the draw for the Otters with a 34 save performance. Ryan Nie turned aside 18 of the 20 shots he faced.

The three stars of the game were 1. Plymouth forward John Vigilante (two assists); 2. Sniderman and 3. Sestito.

The Otters return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Windsor to face off against the Spitfires in a 2 p.m. contest. The Otters complete their three-game road trip Sunday afternoon in Guelph against the Storm. The next Otters home game takes place Friday, October 22nd when the Toronto St. Michael's Majors make their first visit to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
