Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have assigned goaltender Jason LaBarbera and right wing Lauri Tukonen to Manchester, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In addition, the Monarchs assigned right wing James Hiebert to the ECHL's Reading Royals and released defensemen Scott Balan and Shawn Thompson, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced.
LaBarbera, 26, appeared in two preseason games with the Kings. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of Burnaby, British Columbia, recorded a win (a 5-2 victory at San Jose on September 29), a goals-against-average of 1.33 and a save-percentage of .931 in his two games. Originally selected by the New York Rangers in the third-round (66th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, LaBarbera signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on August 2, 2005. He has a record of 12-11-2 and a goals-against-average of 3.11 in 34 career regular season NHL games with the Kings and the Rangers.
Tukonen, 20, appeared in one preseason game with the Kings. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Hyvinkaa, Finland, recorded one goal, one shot and zero penalty minutes in his one contest. Originally selected by the Kings in the first-round (11th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Tukonen has not appeared in a regular season NHL game.
In addition, right wing George Parros, who had one point (0-1=1), two shots and zero penalty minutes in two preseason games with the Kings, was claimed off waivers today by Colorado. Originally selected by the Kings in the eighth-round (222nd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Parros has played in 55 career NHL games - all with the Kings - and has five points (2-3=5) and 138 penalty minutes.
